EARTHCENTRISM - 100 Questions, 1,000 Answers - A Primer in Integrated Thinking.
Earthcentrism is a philosophy , a state of being, a way of life, a vision of future possible, the great and necessary evolutionary step for humankind. It is a reinstatement of something deep within the human psyche, something we have temporarily lost sight of during our process of civilisation. Earthcentrism offers an overview and a new worldview par excellence. Earthcentrism is the place of integrity and integration, the paradigm-shift of our upcoming zeitgeist.
Our era has been dubbed ‘the anthropocene’ – regarding humankind as the most important element of existence. To introduce a geological perspective to the ecological debate invites a necessary distancing to access a collective worldview. Earthcentrism offers the real reality on our own human species of homo sapiens, as part of Earth’s ecosystem.
This book on Earthcentrism explores the territory between anthropocentrism and earthcentrism, across a diversity of contexts. Described as a primer in Integrated Thinking, it introduces a thinking-style based on right brain hemisphere leadership throughout. For, until anthropocentrism and earthcentrism are joined in many ways, it can appear there is an abyss between the two states of mind. Because that is how it is usually presented in the media.
The more we travel the road, the more familiar it becomes, the more we know about it, the easier it becomes to make the journey. And the more we are in a position to point out things of interest, fascination, opening up new possibility and potential. Till it becomes so natural it is instinctive. As, of course, it originally was for indigenous peoples.
This is a book about remarrying, not divorce from nature.
The key question is: ‘What difference will it make?’ What difference can a single word make to anything? Playing devil’s advocate, Earthcentrism is just another concept, along with so many others, and many of them begin with ‘eco’. So begins an in-depth exploration. For ‘eco’, like ‘bio’ and ‘geo’ are add-ons, not fully integrated into human consciousness, not yet mainstream. Even the way the language evolves shows and reveals the underlying pattern of thinking that gave rise to it in the first place. Factoring in the environment is a long way from starting with the whole Earth.
The time is right for anthropocentrism and earthcentrism to be seen as they are, stripped of all agendas, non-elitist, non-specialist. The ground between them thoroughly investigated and explored in detail and with compassion.
There is a strong case to be made that a change in human consciousness must lead the way. There is a good case to be made this is already happening. It was Einstein who said problems cannot be solved from the same level of consciousness that created them. Today, debate on all subjects originates from an essentially left-brain hemisphere orientation. The 1,000 answers to the 100 questions of this book’s subtitle points to the need for creative solutions that serve all.
We are physically made of earth-stuff. The Diversity-in-Unity model is a given of life on Planet Earth. It stamps everything – from spiritual belief to snowflakes to the human fingerprint. This Diversity-in-Unity model creates the holding ground of this book, offering the default position on all issues. The fact the two hemispheres of our brains function differently – speak different languages in left-brain words and right-brain images – is a clarion call to employ the skills of the now recognised superior processor in our skulls far more than we do at present.
The Fifth World of Peace is an old vision derived from native Amerindian belief. Vision is the real leader, a key right brain skill. A vision that so inspires it connects to the energies of the seven billion and rising people on Planet Earth so they choose to come home to the real reality.
